According to official information, ships from Greece and Liberia were the first to pass through the Strait of Hormuz following this agreement. The Greek bulk carrier NJ Earth crossed the strait at 10:44 Central European Time, while the Daytona Beach, under the Liberian flag, passed earlier at 8:59 Central European Time, after leaving the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas just over an hour earlier, at 7:28 Central European Time.
These passages mark the first confirmed transits under what are likely new ceasefire conditions affecting the world's most critical energy chokepoint.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that ships will be allowed safe passage through the strait over a two-week period through coordination with the Iranian armed forces and considering technical limitations.
The Strait of Hormuz is a key part of the agreement between the U.S. and Iran, with initial reports indicating that the passage of 10 to 15 ships per day has been agreed upon. All will receive permission from the Iranian military.
Prior to the U.S.-Israeli attack on Iran, approximately 100 ships passed through the Strait of Hormuz daily.
