Information about the new version of the Xiaomi YU7 model has appeared in the database of China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT). Key updates include a change in battery supplier, reduced weight, and a more attractive price for those not chasing record-breaking range.
According to registration documents, the model's dimensions remain unchanged. The body length is 4,999 mm, width is 1,996 mm, and height varies from 1,600 to 1,608 mm depending on suspension settings and chosen wheels. However, the most interesting aspect lies in the weight characteristics, as the new base version weighs 2,200 kg, which is 115 kg less than the current model.
In terms of design, Xiaomi has decided to add a touch of personalization. Customers will be offered new 20-inch wheels in two styles: "rice grain" and "plum blossom."
The new version features rear-wheel drive with a single electric motor producing 235 kW (320 hp), but the main change is the use of a lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery from CATL. It should be noted that current versions of the Xiaomi YU7 model use batteries with a capacity of 96.3 kWh. The reduction in vehicle weight appears to be linked to the switch to a more compact battery pack, possibly with a capacity of 73 kWh, which is already used in the SU7 sedan.
A smaller battery capacity automatically means a lower price. Currently, prices for the existing YU7 range from $36,700 to $47,800. The introduction of a simplified version will enable Xiaomi Auto to further aggressively lower prices in a market where competition from Tesla and BYD is only intensifying.
The launch of the YU7 model in June 2025 was a real explosion, with over 200,000 orders recorded in the first three minutes. However, data from March 2026 indicates that the initial excitement has subsided and inventory levels are gradually stabilizing. The arrival of a cheaper version is an expected move to maintain interest and attract customers who previously considered the leading SUV too expensive.
