According to unofficial information, the operation was initiated due to intelligence suggesting a potential threat to critical gas infrastructure and citizens living in the area. As RTS learns, following approval from the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Subotica, members of the Criminal Police Directorate, along with the Military Police and other units of the Serbian Army, have been engaged since the early morning hours in blocking and searching part of the territory in the municipality of Kanjiža. Police and army personnel have blocked roads from the direction of the village of Trešnjevac toward the village of Vojvoda Zimonjić, as well as the route from the village of Vojvoda Zimonjić toward the village of Velebit. The search is being conducted in a combined manner from the ground, with control and coordination from the air. Helicopters are flying over the area. All available forces of the Criminal Police Directorate and the Serbian Army are on the ground, including the Special 72nd Brigade.
