While the passions following Italy's elimination in Zenica have yet to subside, an incredible story has surfaced about a fourteen-year-old boy who played a key role in the Dragons' victory over Italy.
Just before the penalty shootout, the experienced Donnarumma placed a note in the penalty area detailing an analysis of the Bosnian national team's shooters. However, young Afan noticed the paper, approached, and took it.
"On the paper, it was clearly written which foot each player shoots with and how they take penaltiesโwhether they go left, right, or wait for the goalkeeper until the last second," Afan explained to Face TV.
"Donnarumma started frantically searching for the paper, looking all around him, even blaming the security guards. He was visibly furious and disappointed," recounted the young Zenica native.
Instead of keeping the paper as a souvenir, Afan and his family decided on a noble move. The note that "sealed the fate" of the Italians will be put up for auction.
"When I got home, I showed the paper to my father. We decided to sell it at auction and donate all the proceeds to humanitarian causes for those most in need," stated this humble boy.
This gesture did not go unnoticed. Due to his resourcefulness and contribution to the historic success, many believe he should receive an invitation to accompany the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team to the World Cup. Whether that will actually happen remains to be seen.
