At the proposal of the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Industry, information on the activities carried out so far in the realization of this infrastructure project, which is assessed as one of the key projects for the energy security of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, has been adopted.
"According to the submitted draft, the planned gas pipeline route includes the direction Zagvozd โ Posuลกje โ Tomislavgrad โ ล uica โ Kupres โ Bugojno โ Novi Travnik/Travnik, as well as the direction Posuลกje โ Grude โ ล iroki Brijeg โ Mostar. Branches towards Livno, Gornji Vakuf-Uskoplje, Donji Vakuf, and Jajce are also planned, including a branch for ฤapljina and an additional direction Kladanj โ Tuzla," states the announcement.
The Government has tasked the Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to inform the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina about this conclusion and the updated draft agreement for further consideration and action.
Simultaneously, the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Industry is obliged to notify the Ministry of Transport and Communications of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina on the same matter.
The adopted information emphasizes that this is an exceptionally significant project that contributes to regional connectivity and strengthens energy stability. It is particularly highlighted that the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina currently depends on a single natural gas supply route, which poses a serious risk in the event of disruptions on the international market.
"By constructing the Southern Interconnection, access to alternative supply sources through the gas system of the Republic of Croatia and the European market would be enabled, significantly reducing dependence on a single supply route," the announcement adds.
The document also states that for the realization of the project, it is necessary to ensure an appropriate legislative framework.
It is recalled that amendments to the Law on the Gas Pipeline "Southern Interconnection of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia" were already adopted in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina on April 8, 2026, while their confirmation is also expected in the House of Peoples.
It was concluded that the adoption of these legal amendments represents an important step towards strengthening supply security and creating conditions for the diversification of natural gas sources, while the continuation of activities on concluding the interstate agreement between Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia remains crucial for the realization of the project.
