Legendary commander Dragan Vikić said today that memories of April 5, 1992, never fade. In his speech, he also reflected on the Bosnian national football team players, who should serve as an example to everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially the elderly and politicians.
"Memories do not fade, especially when a clear and sunny day like today dawns; I remember exactly April 5, 1992. That day was also beautiful in terms of weather, but for Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and for those who gave their lives on the bridge on April 5, Olga and Dilberovićka, it was deadly, while for all of us, it was an unforgettable day. I remember the large gathering in front of the Parliament and all the will and desire of the citizens of Sarajevo and their struggle to prevent bloodshed and attacks on Bosnia and Herzegovina, but unfortunately, it happened. Today is important to us because the old special unit 'Bosna' called on citizens, athletes, students, and all who feel Bosnia in their hearts to join us in defending the city and the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina immediately after the events in front of the Parliament on April 5," he said.
Vikić then reflected on the success of the Dragons, whom he believes should serve as an example to everyone in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"All of us older individuals should turn to the latest example of our Bosnian national football team and see what youth, our students, pupils, young people—the best of our society—can achieve when they are together, when they have a clear goal, when they have no preconceptions, neither national nor political, except for the reason they gathered and the task they were given. They have given a lesson to all of us older individuals, including those in politics. Look up to them, see what they are doing, and take on the task of moving this country forward," he said.
The Minister for Veterans' Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton, Omer Osmanović, a former member of the special unit 'Bosna,' said that his feelings today are mixed.
"Today, we stand behind 81 names of members of the 'Bosna' unit. We have a place that is not just a place for special forces but a gathering place for youth. When I pass by, I see young people here, scheduling meetings. I think this is a new place of love, which will connect youth, and while waiting for their love, they will talk about 'who these guys were, what they did, and how they defended Bosnia and Herzegovina,'" said Osmanović.
He said that all members of the 'Bosna' unit decided to stand in defense of the city and homeland with the goal of defending Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"We are the generation that voted, defended, and built Bosnia and Herzegovina. I am a proud member of the special unit Bosna because all the benefits in my life after the aggression, I experienced because I was a member of the Bosna unit, in addition to my formal legal education. It was always the icing on the cake, 'come on, special forces, to be this and that.'"
