The total value of the projects amounts to 100 million euros, with funds to be directed to the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS) and the Cantonal Hospital in Livno.
The establishment of the framework for these significant investments was discussed today in Sarajevo by Prime Minister of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (FBiH) Nermin Nikลกiฤ and Federal Minister of Health Nediljko Rimac with representatives of Sinopharm and the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As highlighted at the meeting, the plan involves the design and construction of completely new, comprehensive healthcare institutions, as well as secondary and tertiary level protection facilities. The project also includes significant financial investments in existing capacities, with the ultimate goal of improving the quality of healthcare services in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
After the meeting, Minister Rimac confirmed that 52 million euros of the total amount will be invested in KCUS, while the remaining 48 million euros will be directed to the Cantonal Hospital in Livno.
Speaking about the reasons for choosing KCUS for this investment, Rimac explained that certain clinics within the country's largest healthcare institution are still located in unconditioned buildings over 100 years old. Additionally, a significant portion of the central medical facility has remained unfinished for years, except for rough construction work.
KCUS Director Alen Pilav emphasized that this institution has enormous development needs to keep up with modern trends in contemporary medicine, and the funds from the Chinese arrangement should finally enable that much-needed leap forward.
Regarding the investment in Livno, Minister Rimac highlighted the strategic importance of the hospital there, which covers as much as 20 percent of the total territory of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The investments are deemed necessary to provide patients across a wide area between Bihaฤ and Mostar with quality secondary and tertiary level healthcare services.
The Director of the Cantonal Hospital in Livno, Irena Periลกa, stated that the construction of the new hospital will represent a long-term benefit for all patients from this part of the country and significantly raise the quality of healthcare.
The realization of this multi-million agreement is expected to be formalized in the coming period by signing a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation between the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the China Sinopharm International Corporation. This document has already been adopted by the Government of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a session held on April 2.
