According to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, the incident began shortly after 2 p.m. when sheriff's deputies spotted a wanted man driving a Cadillac. They attempted to stop him, but the driver fled, initiating a pursuit.

During the chase, officers received information that the fugitive was armed. After nearly an hour, the pursuit was temporarily halted, but despite police orders, the suspect did not surrender.

He soon attempted to flee again, and at that moment, police tried to use a vehicle immobilization device, which did not properly attach.

The driver lost control of the car and crossed multiple lanes at high speed before crashing into a concrete wall of a house.

Following the collision, a multi-hour standoff ensued. Police used a drone to look inside the vehicle, then broke the rear window and deployed tear gas. Despite these efforts, the suspect was pronounced dead.
