The Ministry of Croatian Veterans reported that on Tuesday, April 7, the remains of two individuals were exhumed from individual graves near Vrgorac and Imotski, and on Wednesday, April 8, the remains of nine individuals were exhumed from the Medviđa pit on Biokovo near Zagvozd. The victims were bound with wire, killed, and thrown into the pit, the entrance of which was subsequently mined.

Croatian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Croatian Veterans Tomo Medved stated in Zagvozd that these are victims of "Partisan-Communist crimes," believed to have been killed at the end of World War II. According to gathered information and testimonies, among the victims are also Franciscan friars from Široki Brijeg, presumed to be three in number, as reported by Hina.

As stated in the announcement, before investigating the pit, it was necessary to demine the entrance, which was done in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior. Following this, a speleological survey was conducted, leading to the challenging exhumation of the found remains, which is still ongoing. In the field investigations, alongside officials from the Ministry of Croatian Veterans, members of the Croatian Army and police are participating.
