According to Turkish media reports, an armed attack occurred on Tuesday in front of a tower in Istanbul's main financial district, which houses the Israeli consulate. In an exchange of fire with the police, one attacker was killed, while two attackers were injured.

The state news agency Anadolu reported that among those detained are the two injured attackers, who are in the hospital receiving medical treatment and being interrogated by investigators regarding the attack.

The remaining eight suspects were arrested in police operations carried out in Istanbul and the nearby province of Kocaeli following the incident.

The Turkish Ministry of Interior did not wish to comment on these arrests, and the Istanbul police and prosecutor's office were not immediately available for statements. The authorities have not yet disclosed details about the motives of the attack.

U.S. Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barrack described the incident in a post on platform X as an attack on the Israeli consulate and condemned it.

Interior Minister Mustafa Ciftci earlier stated that the three attackers are linked to a group that "misuses religion," without providing further details about that organization. He also mentioned that two of the attackers are brothers who arrived in Istanbul from the city of Izmit in a rented car.

According to sources from the Ministry of Interior, the attacker who was killed on the spot has been identified as Yunus Emre Sarban.
