"All American ships, aircraft, and military personnel, along with additional ammunition and weapons, will remain in their positions in and around Iran until the full implementation of the genuine agreement reached. If for any reason this does not happen, which is highly unlikely, then 'the shooting starts,' bigger, better, and stronger than anyone has ever seen before," Trump wrote on his platform Truth Social.
He added that "the Strait of Hormuz will be open without nuclear weapons," apparently alluding to Iran's nuclear program.
Trump previously stated that Iran has agreed to stop enriching uranium, while the Iranian parliament speaker Mohammed Bager Qalibaf said Iran is allowed to continue enriching uranium under the ceasefire conditions.
Earlier on Wednesday, Iran announced that it would be unreasonable to continue talks on reaching a permanent peace agreement with the U.S. after Israel launched its fiercest strikes on Lebanon, killing hundreds of people.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that a ceasefire in Lebanon is an essential condition of his country's agreement with the U.S.
The ceasefire came in the final moments before the deadline set by Trump, which pertained to the opening of the strait. In the event of no agreement, the U.S. president had warned of intensifying attacks, even threatening to "erase civilization."
After Trump announced the ceasefire decision, a statement from Israel indicated that they support Trump's decision to halt attacks on Iran for two weeks. They also stated that the ceasefire does not include Lebanon.
"Israel supports President Trump's decision to halt attacks on Iran for two weeks, provided that Iran immediately opens the strait and stops all attacks on the U.S., Israel, and countries in the region," the Israelis stated.
