As announced by the Municipality of Stari Grad, the newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sylvia Abu Laban, together with Mayor Irfan Čengić, ceremoniously planted the 249th linden tree in this unique row of trees that has been recording traces of international friendships since 2002. The Avenue of Ambassadors, stretching from Bentbaša to Dariva, has been gathering representatives of states and international organizations for more than two decades, each planting a linden tree for their country as a lasting memory of peace, stability, and partnership. Upon completion of the planting, the ambassador was presented with a certificate of participation in this project, along with a brochure containing the names of all diplomats who have so far left their mark on the Avenue. "This visit was also an opportunity to hold a meeting in the premises of the Palestinian community in Stari Grad, which opened in January 2025. The Municipality of Stari Grad continuously fosters good relations with the Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as with the previous ambassador, Rezaq Namoor, and today's meeting further confirmed the commitment to strengthening mutual cooperation," the statement said. At the last session of the Municipal Council, consent was given to the mayor to sign a cooperation agreement with the municipality of Al-Ram from Jerusalem, opening new opportunities for international cooperation and exchange of experiences. The linden tree planting and the meeting were attended by the President of the Municipal Council, Seid Skaljić, Vice Presidents Kerim Smailbegović and Vedad Deljković, Councilor Muamer Mekić, as well as the Secretary of the Municipal Administrative Body, Adela Plakalo. "It is a great honor for me to have planted a linden tree today together with Mayor Čengić, as a symbol of friendship and solidarity between our peoples," emphasized the ambassador. The Municipality emphasizes that each new linden tree in the Avenue of Ambassadors represents much more than just a tree. "It is a symbol of long-term friendships and a lasting memory of international cooperation that confirms Sarajevo as a city of openness, solidarity, and peace. On this occasion, the Municipality of Stari Grad Sarajevo once again expresses support for the people of Palestine, with a commitment to peace, justice, and respect for fundamental human rights," they stated.
