In response to RSE, it is stated that the request for an interim measure, in accordance with Rule 39 of the Court, was considered and rejected, without further comment on its content. Milorad Dodik was definitively sentenced last year to one year in prison and six years of prohibition from holding public office by the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina for disrespecting the decisions of the High Representative. The court determined that Dodik, as the then President of Republika Srpska, knowingly signed and implemented laws that the High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Christian Schmidt, had previously annulled. Milorad Dodik's appeal against Bosnia and Herzegovina was filed in January 2026, after which a request for an interim measure was also made. Dodik's legal representative, Goran Bubiฤ‡, did not wish to comment on the European Court of Human Rights' decision for Radio Free Europe. Simultaneously, the acting agent of Bosnia and Herzegovina before the European Court of Human Rights, Monika Mijiฤ‡, confirmed to RSE that Bosnia and Herzegovina has not yet received the case from the Strasbourg Court at this time. The decision on the interim measure does not prejudge the outcome of Dodik's appeal, which the Strasbourg Court may decide in subsequent stages of the proceedings, after the case is delivered to Bosnia and Herzegovina and all parties in the proceedings have stated their positions. The European Court of Human Rights did not clarify to RSE at what stage Dodik's appeal currently is.
