An earthquake occurred at a depth of 35 kilometers and triggered tsunami warnings that were later withdrawn. In the city of Manado, in North Sulawesi province, one person died after a building collapsed, while another was injured, reported the Indonesian national news agency Antara. Although the region has a high level of seismic activity, some residents told the BBC that this was one of the strongest earthquakes they had felt in at least the last six years. Following the main shock, dozens of aftershocks occurred, including one of magnitude 5.9, further unsettling the population. Although some countries in the region, including Japan, monitored the situation, no serious warnings were issued, with only minor sea level changes announced.
