Councillors of the Tuzla City Council will discuss the security situation in the city area at the upcoming thematic session, based on information provided by the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton at their request.

According to official information, a total of 1,324 criminal offenses were recorded in 2025, which is an increase of nearly 12 percent compared to the previous year. At the same time, the police managed to maintain the overall clearance rate at a relatively favorable 66.5 percent, with a slight increase compared to 2024.

However, a particularly concerning trend is the continuously high number of repeat offenders, which, according to the police, indicates possible shortcomings in penal policy. Additionally, although the number of juvenile perpetrators has decreased, their proportion remains a significant security challenge.

Regarding the most serious forms of crime, three attempted murders were recorded, which is fewer than the previous year, while no murders were recorded. One case of attempted rape was registered, while the number of rapes decreased to zero.

The number of robberies remained at the same level as in 2024, totaling 12, with the most common targets being retail stores, betting shops, and citizens, involving threats with firearms or objects resembling them.

The total number of reported perpetrators increased by over 18 percent, while the number of criminal offenses committed by known perpetrators rose significantly, by over 26 percent. At the same time, the police managed to clear up a total of 881 criminal offenses, an increase of nearly 14 percent.

Material damage caused by criminal offenses decreased significantly compared to the previous year. In the area of public order and peace, an improvement was recorded.

A total of 353 misdemeanors were recorded, a decrease of nearly eight percent. The most common forms of public order disturbances were particularly insolent behavior, brawls, and disrespect towards police officers. The majority of misdemeanors, over 70 percent, occurred on streets, squares, and other public areas.

In contrast to public order and peace, the traffic safety situation shows deterioration. The total number of traffic accidents increased slightly, but the concerning fact is that the number of fatalities doubled, from three to six persons.

The total number of injured increased by over 30 percent, with a significant rise in the number of lightly injured persons. The main causes of accidents remain excessive speed, non-compliance with traffic regulations, and driving under the influence of alcohol.

The Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton emphasizes that the overall security situation is significantly influenced by socio-economic factors such as unemployment, as well as phenomena like alcoholism, drug addiction, and violent behavior.

Frequent citizen protests were also recorded during the year, requiring additional police engagement.

In the upcoming period, the police focus will be on combating property and organized crime, fighting corruption, drug abuse, and domestic violence, as well as improving traffic safety.

Additionally, the need to strengthen cooperation with the community and other institutions was emphasized, along with further education of police officers.

Although statistics show certain negative trends, the Police Administration of the Ministry of Interior of Tuzla Canton concludes that the overall security situation remains at a satisfactory level, noting that the real picture cannot be viewed solely through numbers, but also through citizens' perception of security.
