They further stated that the public will be timely informed about the re-exhibition of the Sarajevo Haggadah through their website and official communication channels.
The discovery of the Sarajevo Haggadah sparked great interest among art historians of the time, as it represented one of the rare pieces of evidence that among Jews, despite the strict prohibition from God's commandments ("You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness..." - Exodus 20:4), figurative depiction of human and animal forms was present and at a very high artistic level.
Based on stylistic analysis of the illuminations and miniatures on its pages, it has been determined that the book originated in medieval Spain, in the region of the former Kingdom of Aragon, most likely in Barcelona around 1350โpossibly as a wedding gift for members of two well-known families, Shoshan and Elzar, as their coats of arms: a shield with a rosette/rose (Hebrew: shoshan) and a wing (Hebrew: elazar) are found on the page that also bears the coat of arms of the city of Barcelona, among other details noted on the website of the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
