"Today we visited the construction site on the XII transversal for the first time, the part of the transversal that passes through the municipality of Novi Grad. This is actually the only section for which a building permit has been issued so far. This traffic route is significant for the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, connecting the highway and Sarajevo airports. This section is specific because it contains several structures, primarily a roundabout at the location where we are now, then a bridge over the Dobrinja River, and currently, riverbed regulation is being carried out in this span between two existing bridges. Another new bridge is being built, and of course, two additional traffic lanes, so we will have four traffic lanes across this entire area, from the airport to the Stupska loop," said Efendić.
He added that the works in Novi Grad are progressing well and that he expects the Municipality of Ilidža to soon resolve two sections of the XII transversal located on its territory, as well as a roundabout at the very entrance to the airport.
The value of the works on the section where construction is underway is 7 million KM. The works are financed by JP Ceste FBiH.
The municipality has carried out the expropriation of land necessary for the project's realization, construction of structures, and expansion of the traffic route.
"These tasks have been completed, and today we have a construction site here. I can say that this is one of the more critical points in all of Sarajevo, an area that connects the municipalities of Novi Grad and Ilidža and is burdened with traffic. At the same time, it is a main road towards Trnovo and Foča, towards Sarajevo Airport, and a large part of the city's traffic flows through this area. Now, instead of the existing two lanes, there will be four traffic lanes, much greater traffic capacity, and less congestion," said Efendić.
Munir Ramić, representative of the contractor, Euro-Asfalt d.o.o., said that after the snowfall, the works have progressed at a satisfactory pace and are in an advanced stage of execution.
"This section of the XII transversal consists of one large roundabout, a route segment about 400 meters long, a bridge over the Dobrinja River, and regulation of the Dobrinja River over about 150 meters. The agreed deadline is nine months. We expect a slight extension due to the snowfall that slowed us down during the winter period," explained Ramić.
