Decades before the current wave of restorers emerged, Ruf was already a place where one could purchase a more advanced Porsche. Founded in the late 1930s as a general repair workshop, Ruf later evolved into a manufacturer focused on modifying Porsche models, launching its first model in 1977. Over the years, Ruf has produced some exceptional machines, many of which are now highly sought-after collector's items.
One of the company's more intriguing creations may have flown under the radar for some: a 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa, modified to BTR III specifications and truly unique. After a comprehensive restoration, it seems inevitable that interested buyers will be lining up for a closer look.
Ruf initially modified the car to BTR III specifications in 1990, fitting it with new front and rear spoilers inspired by the Turbo. The model received 17-inch Ruf Speedline wheels and an upgraded 3.4-liter turbocharged 6-cylinder engine, producing 413 horsepower and paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
The car remained with its original owner until 2024, then changed hands, undergoing a detailed restoration by SV Automotive Engineering. As part of this restoration, the car was repainted, a series of suspension upgrades were made, and the brakes were overhauled.
Inside, new upholstery was installed, and several parts were either refreshed or replaced. Key original features include Ruf's air conditioning system, a Blaupunkt cassette player with upgraded speakers, and a leather-wrapped Ruf steering wheel.
During the restoration, the engine was also rebuilt with new pistons, cylinders, valves, valve springs, mounts, bearings, fuel and oil lines, and timing adjustments, while the turbocharger and wastegate were refurbished.
PCar Market is handling the sale and notes that this 911 has covered 46,100 km since leaving the factory and is now located in La Verne, California. Since the restoration was completed, it has only been driven 48 km. This effectively leaves it untouched since the restoration, which seems almost unbelievable.
