Every AE86 that enters TOM's Heritage will be given a new lease on life. The company begins by completely disassembling the car down to the bare chassis, repairing any parts that need attention, and reinforcing the structure with new spot and MIG welding.
The car is then slowly rebuilt with new body panels before receiving a fresh coat of paint. TOM's Heritage also outfits each restored AE86 with its signature 15-inch double four-spoke wheels. Aerodynamics are enhanced thanks to TOM's racing expertise, which includes a prominent diffuser hidden behind the rear bumper.
Unlike some restorations that stick to factory specifications, the AE86 program includes several excellent powertrain upgrades. The bore of Toyota's four-cylinder 4A-GE engine is increased from 81 mm to 82 mm, raising displacement from 1,578 cc to 1,626 cc, allowing peak power to grow from 160 PS to 195 PS. Torque is also boosted from 162 Nm at 5,200 rpm to 191 Nm at 6,490 rpm.
The interior is upgraded with new seats upholstered in a special fabric that perfectly suits the vehicle from this era.
Given how detailed the restoration is, the price shouldn't shock anyoneโthough it still does. TOM's starting price for the full treatment is 13.2 million yen (about โฌ71,000), and if a donor AE86 needs to be sourced, the minimum price is 16.5 million yen (about โฌ90,000).
