The French military's General Directorate for Armament has launched the development of the "Chorus" assault drone with a budget of 35 million euros allocated to the small and medium-sized enterprise Turgis Gaillard and the Renault Group. This drone, designed to carry a military payload of 500 kg over a distance of 3,000 km, will clearly have a different use compared to UAVs. The Ministry of the Armed Forces approached the car manufacturer to "put its expertise at the service of developing the French drone industry." It also reiterated that Renault possesses "sought-after expertise" in "designing, industrializing, and mass-producing high-tech devices" with "control over quality, costs, and deadlines." However, the "Chorus" UAV will clearly not be produced on a large scale. Patrick Pailloux, the General Director for Armament, stated during a Senate hearing on February 26 that within the Chorus program, conducted with Renault and Turgis Gaillard, they aim to develop an equivalent of the Ukrainian Flamingo missile, which carries a 500 kg payload over 3,000 km at a speed of 400 km/h, with a unit cost of 100,000 euros. In any case, the Ministry of the Armed Forces does not intend to produce Chorus on a large scale. As Pailloux noted, "we will not procure large quantities of such equipment, which will quickly become obsolete." However, he added that this project ensures Renault will be able to produce it in large quantities when the time comes.
