Union representatives, with a membership of 2,000, have submitted three main demands to FIFA and stadium owner Kroenke Sports & Entertainment. These include a public commitment that ICE will not interfere in the World Cup, protection of jobs and working conditions for union members, and support for adequate accommodation for workers.
SoFi Stadium is one of the most modern in the world, opened in 2020 and renowned as the most expensive stadium globally. Its construction cost between $5 and $6 billion, and at maximum capacity, it can accommodate up to 100,000 people.
Recall that acting Director of the Department of Homeland Security Todd Lyons previously stated that ICE will play a key role in the World Cup, which the union has assessed as an attack on the security of both themselves and the guests.
"FIFA and its corporate sponsors will earn billions from the matches in Los Angeles without even acknowledging the work of those who make the entire event possible," said union vice president Kurt Petersen.
Incidentally, Bosnia and Herzegovina will also play their match at this stadium. Specifically, the second-round group stage match between BiH and Switzerland will be held on June 18 at SoFi Stadium.
