Kharrazi was known in the Iranian political atmosphere as a reformist politician, head of the Iranian Strategic Council for Foreign Relations, and an advisor to Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He served as Iran's Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 2005. Iranian media previously reported that on April 1, Kamal Kharrazi was "severely injured and hospitalized" after an attack in which, according to reports, his wife was killed. As reported by the media, the target of the attack was Kharrazi's house in Tehran. In earlier U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was killed and later succeeded by his son Mojtaba. Additionally, high-ranking Iranian officials were also killed laterโ€”Iran's security chief Ali Larijani and Basij forces commander Gholamreza Soleimani. Currently, a two-week ceasefire announced by U.S. President Donald Trump is in effect. The ceasefire came in the final moments before the deadline set by Trump, which pertained to the opening of the strait. In the event that no agreement was reached, the U.S. President had announced that he would intensify attacks, even to the extent of "erasing civilization." After Trump announced the ceasefire decision, a statement arrived from Israel stating that they support Trump's decision to halt attacks on Iran for two weeks.
