The former coach of Romania was 80 years old and led the team to the playoff semifinals for the World Cup against Turkey. He thus became the oldest coach to lead the national team of any country in an official match. Lucescu passed away in a hospital bed after several complications that arose on Tuesday. He had been hospitalized for a week since he fainted in the national team's locker room due to ventricular tachycardia while holding a technical meeting with the players. Additionally, on Friday, just before discharge, he suffered an acute myocardial infarction. He will go down in history as the third most trophy-winning coach in football with 38 official trophies, and in the Champions League, he managed a total of 115 matches, ranking as the sixth coach by number of matches in Europe's most elite club competition. Throughout his career, he coached, among others, Inter, Galatasaray, Besiktas, Shakhtar Donetsk, where he left the greatest impression and stayed for 12 years, and he also served as the coach of Turkey and Romania. It should be added that he also led the Romanian national team in the World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he was twice defeated by the Dragons, with a 1:0 loss in Romania and a 3:1 loss in Zenica for BiH.
