"In order to allow diplomacy to take its course, I sincerely urge President Trump to extend the deadline by two weeks. Pakistan, in all sincerity, appeals to our Iranian brothers to open the Strait of Hormuz for an appropriate period of two weeks as a gesture of goodwill. We also call on all warring parties to observe a ceasefire everywhere for a duration of two weeks so that diplomacy can achieve a final end to the war, in the interest of long-term peace and stability in the region," wrote Shehbaz Sharif, whose government is acting as a mediator between Iran and the United States.
The Pakistani Prime Minister stated that efforts to end the conflict are "progressing steadily, strongly, and powerfully."
In an earlier post this week, filled with profanities, Trump warned that the United States would attack power plants and bridges in Iran starting Tuesday evening if the Islamic Republic does not reopen the key shipping route. The U.S. President's deadline is set for 8 PM Eastern Time (EST).
"I am not yet fully informed. I can say this, I know him very well. He is an extremely respected man, everywhere," Trump said about the proposal, as reported by Fox News.
Press Secretary Leavitt stated: "The President is aware of the proposal and a response will follow."
Reuters reported, citing a senior Iranian official, that Tehran is positively considering Pakistan's request for a two-week ceasefire.
