Democrat Eric Swalwell and Republican Tony Gonzales have announced their resignations following allegations that have surfaced in recent weeks. This particularly concerns Swalwell, who has been accused by four women of sexual assault and rape in the past few days. He will leave his seat in Congress and also withdraw from the campaign for governor of California, where he was one of the top favorites. On the other hand, Gonzales resigned months after it was revealed that he had an affair with his colleague who committed suicide. However, these two resignations may potentially not be the last. Democratic Representative Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick and Republican Cory Mills could also resign and leave Congress in the coming weeks, reports The Hill. Cherfilus-McCormick faces allegations of misusing public funds, while Mills allegedly used his position as a congressman to secure public contracts for a company he owns. For now, there are certain initiatives to remove them from Congress, but they have not commented on their future in Washington.
