Pogačar, who for the third time in his career won one of the most challenging one-day races, which is as old as 113 years, thus equaling Remco van der Poel when it comes to the Ronde van Vlaanderen, was among the cyclists who ran a red light at the railway crossing. The Slovenian, along with 19 other cyclists, ignored the organizers' instructions that the peloton must stop at the red light when crossing the railway 200 kilometers from the finish. "We are riding and suddenly three guys jump out in front of us and wave at us and signal us to stop. How are we supposed to stop in the same second? They should have told us earlier what it was about, not 10 meters from the railway. Honestly, I thought the guys jumped out to protest about something," said Pogačar, who could be penalized. Indeed, the public prosecutor of East Flanders has initiated proceedings, and if Pogačar and the other cyclists are found guilty, they will be fined between 320 and 4,000 euros, along with an eight-day driving ban.
