Several opposition party candidates have so far expressed ambitions for certain positions, namely candidacy in the upcoming elections this October. The Movement for a Safe Srpska led by Draško Stanivuković confirmed their attendance at today's meeting. This was confirmed for BHRT this morning by Igor Radojičić, a member of the mentioned movement. Their demand will be for Stanivuković to be the candidate for president of the entity Republika Srpska, and Jelena Trivić for a member of the BiH Presidency, for which, as Radojičić says, there is agreement within the party. On the other hand, potential candidates include SDS president Branko Blanuša, which is expected given that he is the leader of the largest opposition party in RS, but also due to the fact that Blanuša achieved a notable result in the race for RS president in the early elections. Candidacy for a member of the BiH Presidency from the Serbian people was previously announced by Nebojša Vukanović, who is politically much closer to Blanuša than to Stanivuković. In other words, Vukanović has been a major critic of Stanivuković in recent years, raising a series of questions about whether the opposition in RS will be able to reach a consensus at all. Radojičić's announcement that he would like to see Trivić as a candidate for a member of the BiH Presidency and that Stanivuković also supports this indicates a split in the opposition into two blocs, and today's meeting will partially show which will gain the upper hand. A divided opposition in RS will weaken its chances in the fight to oust the coalition led by SNSD from power. General elections in BiH will be held in October, and members of the BiH Presidency, the new convocation of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH, the new convocation of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, new convocations of assemblies of 10 cantons in the Federation of BiH, the president of RS, and the new convocation of the National Assembly of RS will be elected.
