Staff within the Ahmet Koyuncu Vocational and Technical High School in the Siverek district experienced dramatic moments just before the attacker opened fire inside the building itself.
The footage shows people in the hallway hurriedly entering classrooms and closing doors behind them, realizing what is happening. Shortly after, a teenager with a backpack enters the frame, holding a pump-action shotgun. At one point, the attacker pauses, briefly checks the weapon in his hands, then continues walking down the hallway and raises the shotgun.
World news agencies, including Reuters, have confirmed the authenticity of this footage by comparing the interior of the school with earlier photographs of the facility. Additionally, the clothing and backpack of the attacker on the surveillance cameras fully match descriptions from official statements and other available materials from the scene.
Recall that the governor of Sanliurfa province, Hasan Sildak, previously confirmed that the attacker, born in 2007 and a former student of this school, first randomly opened fire in the schoolyard before entering the building.
In his rampage, a total of 16 people were injured, including four teachers, 10 students, one police officer, and a cafeteria worker. Four of the injured with minor wounds were transferred to hospitals in the city center, and authorities confirmed that, fortunately, none of the victims suffered fatal injuries.
When strong police forces arrived at the scene and cornered the attacker, he used the same weapon to commit suicide. The school facility was then fully evacuated, and the motive for this attack remains the subject of an extensive police investigation.
