The actress mentioned that she is learning how to become a "death doula," a person who helps people in their final moments of life. She revealed this information during a lecture at the War Memorial Hall of the University of San Francisco.
In a conversation with investigative journalist and diplomat Vicky Nguyen, she explained that this idea might sound a bit strange, but her plans followed after her mother, Janelle Ann Kidman, passed away at the age of 84.
"When my mother was dying, she was lonely, and the family could only do so much. My sister and I have so many children, careers, and jobs, and we wanted to take care of her because my father wasn't there. That's when I thought how I would love for there to be people who are there to sit and provide comfort and care. That's one of the things I plan to learn," she said.
Kidman also spoke about the grief she felt after losing her mother and her father, who passed away in 2014. A month after losing her mother, Kidman described her as the main guide in her life and mentioned that she would wake up crying over the loss of both parents.
She learned of her mother's death while at the Venice Film Festival, so she left early to be with her family.
