Founded in 2007 as a kind of liberal version of the much more powerful AIPAC, this group financially supported Democratic Party candidates who were pro-Israel oriented. Like AIPAC, they supported politicians who vote for sending financial aid to Israel, as well as those who support "Israel as the national state of the Jews." It is interesting to note that J Street supported a two-state solution for the situation in the historical Palestinian territory. However, according to Jewish Insider, they have changed some of their positions and will no longer support politicians who want to send money for Israeli weapons. This includes financial aid for the Iron Dome, the Israeli anti-aircraft system. In previous debates, even those American politicians who supported halting military aid to Israel said that the Iron Dome, as a "defensive tool," should not be part of that halt. On the other hand, AIPAC is a much more well-known, older, and more radical organization, with a much larger budget. They still maintain that they are not lobbyists, but "Americans who love Israel," although there are increasingly loud calls for their members to register as foreign agents.
