The main technical revolution lies beneath the bodywork. The Mercedes-Benz EQS has switched from a 400-volt to an 800-volt electrical architecture, which for the owner means no more long waits at charging stations. The system now supports charging power of up to 350 kW, and under ideal conditions, a ten-minute charge is sufficient for a range of 320 km.

The battery is also larger, with its usable capacity increased from 118 to 122 kWh thanks to new cell chemistry with higher energy density. For the EQS 450+ model, the declared range is up to 925 km according to the WLTP cycle.

Inside, the EQS continues its "spaceship" line. The massive 55-inch MBUX Hyperscreen is still present but now runs on the new MB.OS operating system. The highlight of the upgrade is the advanced voice assistant, developed in close collaboration with Microsoft, featuring integrated artificial intelligence for more natural communication with the driver.

However, the real surprise is the steer-by-wire system. The Germans have decided to eliminate the mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the front wheels, so commands are "transmitted via wire," allowing for dynamic changes in the steering ratio. This solution paves the way for the use of a "yoke" steering wheel, which does not obstruct the instruments and looks more futuristic. However, this solution has already been used by Tesla and received much negative feedback from users.

To maximize the electric car's potential, engineers have installed a two-speed transmission on the rear axle. The first gear provides explosive acceleration, while the second ensures high efficiency at speeds above 120 km/h. Additionally, all-wheel-drive versions (4MATIC) completely disconnect the front motor when not needed, "saving" precious kilometers.

For those accustomed to riding in the back, Mercedes-Benz has added "brilliant extras," improved monitors, heated seat belts, and even better sound insulation. Externally, the 2026 EQS will be recognizable by its redesigned grille and the classic star returning to the hood in some versions as a tribute to conservative S-Class enthusiasts.

Prices are still being kept secret, but the reference value is clear. The current model costs at least 130,000 euros, so it is unlikely that the redesigned version will be cheaper.
