The Charm of Mostar and the Neretva In an informal atmosphere, far from classrooms, mathematicians from around the world learned important lessons about friendship, diversity, and building connections that transcend borders.
Mostar welcomed them with its rich history and recognizable architecture. There were no sunny rays typical of Mostar, but that did not diminish the beauty and distinctive charm of this city. Mostar Gymnasium, Zrinjevac Park, and the view of the city from the Boulevard were the introduction to the continuation of the journey toward the old town core.
The visit to the Old Bridge, a recognizable symbol of the city, sparked particular excitement among the participants, who did not miss the opportunity to capture moments with photographs next to this world heritage monument. Additional impressions were complemented by stories about the traditional jumps of Mostar's "lasta" (swallows). The tour of religious sites testified to the rich spiritual and cultural diversity of Mostar, while a walk through the old town core with its hidden streets and authentic details provided the young people with a unique insight into the daily life of this city.
The young mathematicians also experienced the hospitality and openness of the local community during their visit to Jablanica, where, through a conversation with Emir Balavac, Minister of Trade, Tourism, and Environmental Protection of HNK, they learned about another significant segment of Herzegovinian identity and history.
It is precisely through such moments that Telemach and the Telemach Foundation, as the only representatives of the business sector among the sponsors of the MBL camp, aim to bring the country, where they are staying and acquiring top mathematical knowledge, closer to young talents from around the world.
"The trip was filled with laughter, exploration, and genuine enthusiasm from our young guests. We are particularly pleased that they felt the warmth and diversity of BiH through cultural-historical landmarks, natural beauty, and gastronomy, as we believe that such experiences remain in memory for a long time. We hope that their life and professional paths will bring them back to our country, not only as tourists but also as investors, scientists, and professors. We will continue to invest in young people and their potential, with the clear goal of building a stronger and more successful society in Bosnia and Herzegovina," emphasized Nera Haljevac, Director of the Telemach Foundation.
Triumph of Knowledge and Cooperation The fourth MBL camp, held from March 23 to 31, gathered 39 participants from 16 countries and 16 renowned lecturers, providing an intensive program focused on solving complex mathematical challenges, exchanging knowledge and experiences, and developing talents.
The organizers of the MBL Balkans camp, young mathematical geniuses from BiH and medal winners from international competitions, emphasize that such moments have special value.
"Although the focus of this project is on top-level mathematics, the trip to Herzegovina further enriched the camp program, making it more diverse and of higher quality. We are particularly pleased to strengthen the international character of the camp by gathering participants and lecturers from an increasing number of countries. Our goal is to popularize mathematics and motivate young people to choose the path of science, while strengthening the scientific community in Bosnia and Herzegovina," said Andrej Maduniฤ, President of the "Vladimir Prelog" Scientific Society.
The camp concluded in a spirit of togetherness and celebration of success, with certificates awarded to all participants and prizes to the winners of various team competitions, confirming the exceptional level of knowledge and cooperation fostered by this camp.
"The MBL camp is excellent, the lectures are great, and working with inspiring mentors and socializing with young people from around the world who share the same passion for mathematics is its most valuable part," highlighted Vinicius Macรชdo, a participant from Brazil.
Through this unique project, Telemach BH continues to invest in the development of BiH talents and strengthen the position of Bosnia and Herzegovina as a regional STEM education center and a meeting place for future leaders in science.
