Just before entering the atmosphere, the Integrity capsule containing the crew members separated from the Orion spacecraft they were traveling in. Immediately before entering Earth's atmosphere, the astronauts fired the engines for 18 seconds to correct their trajectory and successfully enter the atmosphere at a specific angle, which allows the heat shield to withstand temperatures of 2,760 degrees Celsius. During this process, it is not uncommon for the interior of the space capsule to smell, as the high temperature scorches their armor, and as former astronauts report, the odor is somewhat like that of a gym locker room. The most critical moment for the astronauts and the entire mission is precisely the entry into Earth's atmosphere. The astronauts entered the atmosphere at a speed 35 times faster than the speed of sound, plasma formed around their capsule, and they were without communication with Earth for about six minutes. After passing through the densest layers of the atmosphere, the capsule significantly slows down, and then several parachutes deploy to stabilize and further decelerate the descent. The Orion capsule ultimately splashes down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego, with the landing zone being quite precise, deviating by only one and a half kilometers. This was followed by the arrival of a U.S. naval unit, helicopters, and ships that secured the capsule in the water, extracted the astronauts, and transported them to a ship. The astronauts also undergo medical examinations, adapt to gravity, and perform certain motor exercises. After a brief check-up, they head to Houston for additional tests, where recovery also awaits them. In addition to the astronauts, the capsule that brought them back to Earth will undergo detailed tests and inspections.

What the return from space looked like: Six critical minutes without communication with Earth and a capsule that smells.
Overnight, the eyes of the world were fixed on NASA's Artemis II mission, which marks the first human journey around the Moon in the last 50 years. The astronauts spent 10 days in space, and we reconstructed their return, which occurred at two o'clock this morning.
