He noted that the then Union Berlin footballer arrived only to meet the coaching staff and the national team, but ended up playing a full match where Bosnia and Herzegovina was defeated 5-0. "I went with the intention just to introduce myself. So, I didn't even have football boots. I wasn't supposed to play because I was injured at the end of the season. And it was like: 'Come on, please, five minutes, just to register you,' because they were afraid I might change my decision. And from five minutes, it actually turned into 90 minutes; I played almost the entire match. They bought me boots there in a store somewhere like that. And I played. We lost 5-0. That was my... that was my entry into the national team," said Barbarez, adding: Barbarez played a total of 47 matches in the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team jersey and scored 17 goals, leading our homeland's selection to the World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada. In his career, he played for Veleลพ, Hannover, Union Berlin, Hansa Rostock, Borussia Dortmund, HSV, and Bayer Leverkusen, where he ended his career.
