The Easter liturgy was served in the early morning hours, and after the prayer, the faithful gathered in the churchyard of Donja Sopotnica, where a traditional "egg tapping" competition was held to choose the hardest Easter egg, accompanied by modest refreshments and festive fellowship.
The parish priest of Goražde, Father Marko Marković, emphasized that Easter this year once again brings people together in the spirit of faith, hope, and community.
"Easter is the greatest and most important Christian holiday, the day we celebrate the victory of life over death. The joy that Easter brings is given to all people as hope for eternal life. We are glad that today we celebrated this great holiday together, in prayer and fellowship," said Marković.
Special attention was also drawn to the distribution of Easter eggs, of which more than a thousand were prepared this year and were shared with the faithful and neighbors.
"Joy is more beautiful when shared. Through the giving of Easter eggs, we show love and all the goodness that exists in people. That is precisely the essence of the holiday—to be there for one another," emphasized Marković.
He noted that the Easter message transcends all boundaries and calls for peace and mutual respect.
"Easter carries a universal message of peace and love, which is perhaps what we need most today. It is important that we live in harmony, respect each other, and rejoice in one another, because only in this way can we build a better society," he conveyed.
After the liturgy and egg tapping, the fellowship continued in a festive atmosphere. It was also announced from the church in Donja Sopotnica that in the coming days, visits will be made to schools, hospitals, and other institutions in Goražde to share the joy of Easter with as many people as possible.
This year, Easter in Goražde was celebrated in the spirit of tradition, faith, and community, with a message that remains enduring: peace, love, and the joy of sharing.
