Apple's original film "Propeller One-Way Night Coach" is an adaptation of Travolta's children's book published in 1997. The film will be screened in the non-competitive section of the program, premiering at the Cannes Film Festival in the Debussy Theatre, ahead of its global premiere on the Apple TV+ platform on May 29. Its presence at the festival will bring a touch of Hollywood glamour to a quieter year for film studios. The selection of the film also highlights that major streaming services, with the exception of Netflix, are willing to adhere to the rules of the Cannes Film Festival and showcase films out of competition if they do not plan local theatrical distribution. Travolta's passionate project brings him back to the Croisette, where he previously appeared as an actor in films such as "Pulp Fiction," "She's So Lovely," and "Primary Colors." The renowned actor, whose filmography spans over 70 films, has had this project in mind for decades. In the film's announcement, Cannes highlighted that Travolta is an experienced professional pilot and a long-time aviation enthusiast. He began flying at just 15 years old, obtained his first pilot's license at 22, and has since earned numerous certifications. John Travolta holds certifications to operate Boeing 707, 737, and 747 aircraft, the Bombardier Global Express, and was the first private pilot to fly an Airbus A380. With over 9,000 flight hours, the actor has also owned several aircraft over the years and even piloted planes in two films. The plot of "Propeller One-Way Night Coach" is set in the golden age of aviation and follows a young airplane enthusiast, Jeff (Clark Shotwell), and his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett), as they embark on a one-way cross-country journey to Hollywood. The film was produced by Travolta's company JTP Films Inc and Kids At Play, with Travolta producing alongside Jason Berger and Amy Laslett.
