According to reports from international media, Kharazi was injured during an attack suspected to be linked to Israeli military operations. Iran's Mehr news agency reported that the attack involved the bombing of residential buildings, resulting in injuries to Kharazi, but details about his health condition have not been disclosed.
Two Iranian officials told The New York Times that Kharazi had recently been involved in diplomatic contacts with Pakistan, aiming to organize a possible meeting between Iranian representatives and Vice President JD Vance.
The motive for the attack is currently unknown.
Kharazi, who served as Iran's foreign minister from 1997 to 2005 under former President Mohammad Khatami, is considered an experienced diplomat and currently acts as an advisor at the top of Iran's political establishment. According to Israeli and Iranian media reports, his house was hit during the latest military activities on Wednesday.
In early March, Kharazi gave an interview to CNN in Tehran, with the approval of Iranian authorities, in which he stated that Iran has the capacity for a prolonged conflict and currently sees no room for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis.
