The match started furiously for the home side. Already in the 1st minute, Lautaro Martinez made the best of a counterattack in the box and slotted the ball for an early 1:0 lead for Inter.
After a shocking start, Roma managed to regain balance and, following several missed half-chances, found the equalizer. In the 40th minute, Gianluca Mancini met an excellent cross and headed it past Sommer to make it 1:1.
Just when it seemed the teams would go into halftime level, Hakan Calhanoglu produced the move of the match in the second minute of stoppage time. He unleashed a true projectile from 20 meters, hitting the top corner past a helpless Svilar to give Inter a 2:1 lead.
The second half was completely dominated by the hosts. In the 52nd minute, an in-form Marcus Thuram assisted Lautaro Martinez, and the Argentine scored his second goal of the match to make it 3:1.
Only three minutes later, after a brilliantly taken corner by Calhanoglu, Marcus Thuram jumped and headed precisely to score the fourth goal for Inter.
The home side's dominance continued in the 63rd minute. A rebound inside the penalty area fell to Nicolรฒ Barella, who routinely hammered it into the net for 5:1.
Roma only managed to slightly reduce the disaster by the end of the match. In the 70th minute, Lorenzo Pellegrini set the final score at 5:2.
Inter now has nine points more than Milan with one more game played and seems to have taken a decisive step in the Scudetto race. In the next round, the Nerazzurri will play against Como.
