Demolition experts will conduct a controlled explosion of the former Mandarin Oriental hotel on Brickell Key, an artificial island at the mouth of the Miami River, opposite the city center. Authorities state that this is the largest demolition by explosives in Miami in over a decade.

The 23-story building, opened 25 years ago, is expected to collapse within seconds after detonation. According to Swire Properties, the demolition will allow the start of construction on The Residences at Mandarin Oriental, Miami, an ultra-luxury hotel and residential project featuring two towers, with completion planned for 2030.

The operation is the result of nearly two years of planning and coordination with specialized contractors and city authorities, the investors announced. Explosive demolition was chosen as the safest and most efficient method to meet the project timeline, minimize disruption, and ensure the safety of Brickell Key residents.
