The footage shows a 20-year-old former student entering the school with a firearm. The moment he and the staff perceived the threat, Moore did not hesitate. The video captures the principal running out from behind a wall and tackling the assailant onto a bench as nearby students fled to safety.
During the struggle, the attacker managed to fire several shots, hitting Principal Moore in the leg. Despite the injury, Moore managed to restrain the suspect until other staff rushed to his aid, followed shortly by the police.
Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation (OSBI) spokesperson Hunter McKee stated that the quick response of the principal and staff prevented a larger tragedy.
"The suspect fired multiple rounds and injured the principal, but no one else was hurt. The actions of the staff and principal, who intervened as soon as they saw the armed individual, saved lives today," McKee conveyed.
Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt commented on the incident, praising Moore's bravery.
"Principal Moore acted heroically to protect the lives of students. My wife and I are praying for his speedy recovery. I am grateful for the swift response of the police and school staff, and I am relieved that no students were injured," Stitt wrote on social media platform X.
Principal Moore is currently in the hospital and his condition is stable. The attacker has been taken into custody and faces serious charges, while Pauls Valley, a small community of about 6,000 residents, recovers from the shock.
