Al Jazeera reports that the destruction in Beirut is terrifying, especially because the attacks were carried out without warning. They occurred at a time of confusion across Lebanon over whether the regional ceasefire also applies to this country.

Initially, it was thought that the ceasefire applied to this country as well, but shortly afterward, information from Israel arrived indicating that this was not true, as the Israeli military demonstrated with the attacks.

Mass casualty situations have been declared in multiple hospitals, and authorities have called on all doctors, nurses, and those with medical experience to head to these locations.

Lebanon's Health Minister, Rakan Nassereddine, said that hundreds of people have been killed and wounded.

The attacks included some of the most extensive Israeli strikes in the heart of Beirut in recent decades. Airstrikes hit at least three areas in the administrative part of Beirut, including a strike near the central coastal promenade, according to an analysis of footage conducted by CNN.

The administrative part of Beirut, which is predominantly Sunni and Christian, is rarely targeted by Israeli attacks.

Emergency sirens have been sounding almost continuously since the attacks began.
