Among the notable achievements and results during 2025, the Ministry of the Interior of Sarajevo Canton (MUP KS) primarily highlights the significance of recruiting new police officers. A total of 238 cadets successfully completed training for the rank of "police officer" and began work in the Police Administration of the MUP of Sarajevo Canton. They took their solemn oath on September 14, which also served as an opportunity to present the new uniforms, the procurement of which was finalized in 2025.
For the first time in over 25 years, all police officers have also received new police badges. Every police officer is now fully equipped with the most modern equipment, weapons, and material-technical resources.
In May of last year, 28 junior inspectors also took their solemn oath and began work. They are the first generation of graduated criminologists and lawyers employed in the police force following adopted legal amendments that prescribe exclusively expertise, knowledge, and quality for these positions.
From 2023 to the present, 461 new police officers have been employed, 158 are in the training phase, and an additional 134 candidates are in the competition procedure. By the end of 2026, the number of new police officers will exceed 750.
Through public procurement processes, a total of six special armored vehicles intended for a wide range of operations have been acquired. Their key roles include patrol and reconnaissance missions, command, transport, and support for special operations units.
The delivery of another vehicle is expected soon, the procurement process for three more is underway, and budget funds have been secured for an additional three special armored vehicles.
Quad bikes, drones, personal and collective weaponry, ammunition, ballistic helmets, ballistic plates, night vision devices are just part of the special police equipment and armament procured to strengthen the police in Sarajevo Canton.
Last year, the production of the first helicopter for the MUP of Sarajevo Canton was completed, and its delivery is expected soon. It will be a top-tier multi-purpose aircraft, the only one of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
As emphasized by the MUP KS, "this is not just a helicopter for police operations; it is a means to save lives, property, and natural resources." At the same time, the helicopter is the largest and most significant material resource that the MUP of Sarajevo Canton has ever had.
For the first time in Sarajevo Canton, a strategic approach has been taken to prevent drug abuse.
