In an interview with Entertainment Tonight ahead of the premiere of the popular series' continuation, Muniz recalled how he had an overloaded schedule that day. "I was maybe 12 or 13 years old. I was supposed to film a Pizza Hut commercial on the day of my audition for Malcolm. I think we were supposed to start at 10 in the morning, and my audition for Malcolm was at 9:30," he revealed. As he says, at that moment he didn't believe he could make it to both auditions. "I said: 'Mom, there's no way we'll make it. We can't do it.' Like that pizza commercial, that's my big opportunity. There are 19 other kids there for the series, but I'll be in this commercial. I have to go,'" the actor recalled. However, he ended up showing up for the audition, but with the clear goal of finishing it as soon as possible. "In the end, I went in. The casting director came in. I delivered the lines as fast and as intensely as I could because I just wanted to get it over with as soon as possible," he continued. Muniz emphasizes that such an approach was precisely in line with the character he later portrayed. "Then, if you think about it, that's exactly what Malcolm was," he said, adding that he didn't notice the similarities between himself and the character for a long time, until he rewatched the series with his wife Paige. He shared that he rewatched the series in 2017, and his wife Paige told him that he wasn't acting at all. As he admits, that remark surprised him. "I thought: 'I don't know how to take that' because Malcolm was a bit neurotic, and then after I started filming new episodes, I realized my wife was right," he added. The series "Malcolm in the Middle" aired on the Fox Broadcasting Company network from 2000 to 2006. It had seven seasons. <style>.embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; } .embed-container iframe { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }</style><div class="embed-container"><iframe src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ABol0H2n_rc" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe></div> In the revived version, Bryan Cranston returns as Hal, Jane Kaczmarek as Lois, Christopher Kennedy Masterson as Francis, Justin Berfield as Reese, and Emy Coligado as Piama. New cast members include Keeley Karsten as Malcolm's daughter Leah, Vaughan Murrae as Malcolm's youngest sister Kelly, Kiana Madeira as Malcolm's girlfriend Tristan, and Caleb Ellsworth-Clark as Dewey. The character Dewey was portrayed by Erik Per Sullivan in the original series.
