The Fiat 600 repeats what has already been done with the Peugeot 208 and 2008, and what nearly all Stellantis models equipped with the 1.2-liter Puretech engine will eventually follow. The most significant technical change concerns the engine design. The new 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine from the Stellantis group has eliminated its controversial feature: the toothed belt operating in the oil bath. This design characteristic had been a headache for owners due to the risk of rapid belt wear and clogging of oil channels with degradation products, leading to fatal consequences for the engine. Now, a chain is used instead of the belt. The 1,199 cmยณ engine is equipped with a variable geometry turbocharger and a direct injection system operating at 350 bar. It produces 101 horsepower at 5,500 rpm, with a maximum torque of 205 Nm available from 1,750 rpm. This promises good elasticity and agility in city traffic. The gasoline Fiat 600 is offered with a 6-speed manual transmission and front-wheel drive. This move allows Fiat to significantly lower the entry threshold for purchasing a crossover. The new version will be available in all trim levels: Pop, Icon, Business, La Prima, and Sport. A special Street series (limited to 2,000 units) with a two-tone body and 18-inch wheels has also been announced. In Italy, the price of the base Pop version with the new engine starts from 23,850 euros. For comparison, the hybrid version with 110 horsepower costs from 25,850 euros. Therefore, abandoning electrification and switching to a manual transmission saves about 2,000 euros. The manufacturer also offers special financing conditions through car recycling programs, which can reduce the price to 18,950 euros. The first vehicle deliveries to dealers are planned for June 2026.
