Džeko played all 120 minutes and ended the match with a shoulder injury. At 40 years old, he showed that his homeland always comes first, rewarding himself with a spot in his second World Cup.
Now, he has sent a very emotional message. Džeko emphasized that it wasn't easy, but that the players' character made the difference.
"It wasn't easy. There were moments when we were doubted, when we fell. But we didn't give up. We believed in each other and in what we were building together. Today, when we say that Bosnia and Herzegovina is at the World Cup, we know that behind that sentence lies immense work, sacrifice, and the character of this team. I am proud of every player who wore this jersey, of the coaching staff that led us, and of all the people who stood by us, even when things weren't going well," emphasized our captain.
He is especially grateful to the fans, who followed Bosnia and Herzegovina to every away game during the qualifiers.
"Special thanks to our fans. Your support carried us through every match, in every city, at every stadium. You were our extra player, and that's why I say this is not an individual success. This is a success for all of us—those on the field and those in the stands. The success of a country that knows the value of unity. As captain, I feel immense honor, but also responsibility. This is a moment we dreamed of and made come true... We move forward, great things lie ahead. You are the one and only," concluded Džeko.
