The event in Doha was supposed to open the elite athletics series season on May 8, as has been the case in recent years, but the postponement means that the meeting in Shanghai on May 16 will instead mark the start of the season.
"In recent weeks, the Diamond League has been monitoring the situation in Doha, working closely with the meeting organizers, Qatari authorities, and other partners," the Diamond League announced on Wednesday, a few hours after a two-week truce between Iran, the United States, and Israel was declared.
"In the interest of the safety of athletes and spectators, the decision has been made to postpone the meeting. If conditions allow, it will be held on June 19."
The date change also means a change of stadium. Temperatures in Qatar in June are generally higher, so the meeting will move to the Khalifa International Stadium, which is equipped with extensive cooling systems around the athletics track and stands, used during the 2019 World Athletics Championships.
Qatar has become one of the key host countries for global sporting events in recent years, but has had to postpone or cancel several high-profile competitions since the United States and Israel began carrying out attacks on Iran in February.
The "Finalissima" football match between Argentina and Spain, which was supposed to be played in Qatar, was canceled last month, and the Qatari MotoGP Grand Prix was moved to November. In the rest of the region, Formula 1 races scheduled for April in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia have been canceled.
