In the presence of the Prime Minister of the Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, the Minister of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, Kenan Magoda, signed a contract today with the director of AVC company, Strelo Sejdić, for the procurement of modern audio and video equipment, as well as new stage lighting for: the Sarajevo War Theatre (SARTR), the Sarajevo Youth Theatre, the Sarajevo National Theatre, and the Chamber Theatre 55. The contract is worth one million convertible marks. The directors of the mentioned theatres—Maja Salkić, Ismir Fazlagić, Ermin Sijamija, and Vedran Fajković—were also present at the signing. This is one of the most significant investments in the technical infrastructure of theatres in the past few decades, considering that the existing equipment in some segments is over 40 years old, while the lighting largely did not meet modern European standards. The modernization of the equipment will significantly improve working conditions for artists and technical staff, as well as the quality of productions, which will directly impact the overall audience experience. On this occasion, Minister Magoda stated that this is an exceptionally important day for culture in the Sarajevo Canton. "After more than four decades, we are systematically investing in the basic technical working conditions of our theatres. The equipment that was in use could no longer meet modern production demands or the standards implied by the European stage today. With this investment, we are not only improving working conditions for artists and technical staff but also directly raising the quality of performances and the audience experience. This investment comes at a time when we are recording a growing interest of citizens in theatre, which is the best indicator that culture has strong support and its own audience," said Minister Magoda. The previous year was record-breaking in terms of attendance at Sarajevo theatres. As many as 71,829 spectators enjoyed the programs of the National Theatre, 13,584 at the Chamber Theatre 55, 26,611 at the Youth Theatre, and 14,950 at the Sarajevo War Theatre. Behind these numbers are emotions, applause, silence that speaks, and shared moments that are remembered. "The Sarajevo National Theatre, Chamber Theatre 55, SARTR, and Sarajevo Youth Theatre hosted over 125,000 people last year. The audience showed how much they need theatre, and our artists responded with top-notch performances and awards. That is why it is important to me that today, with this contract for the procurement of modern equipment and lighting, we respond to them. Investing in new audiovisual equipment is a concrete way to say 'thank you' and make their work easier. I am aware that the system is still not perfect and that we have much work ahead on infrastructure, but this is a clear step forward. We want the technical conditions to match the quality of their visions. Investing in culture is investing in a healthier and happier society, and we must not skimp on it," stated Prime Minister Uk. Director Sejdić, as the representative of the contractor, emphasized that the modernization of technical capacities enables artists to convey their vision to the audience in a stronger, higher-quality, and more modern way. The directors of Sarajevo theatres expressed their satisfaction with this move by the Government of the Sarajevo Canton and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of the Sarajevo Canton, as they will have new audio and video equipment after more than 40 years.
