BMW expects to achieve significantly better sales results by the end of this year compared to last year's performance, with optimism fueled by the upcoming launch of six new models. These will aid in their decades-long battle for customers against fierce domestic rivals from Stuttgart (Mercedes-Benz) and Ingolstadt (Audi).
Revealed a few weeks ago, a member of BMW's new lineup is the electric i3 model. In Munich, they claim that the batteries in the mid-size sedan from the 'Neue Klasse' story will enable a range of up to 900 kilometers on a single charge. This is expected to significantly reduce range anxiety and attract customers who had never considered vehicles without internal combustion engines.
The first BMW i3 (50 xDrive) comes with all-wheel drive and two electric motors producing 469 horsepower and 645 Nm of torque. By the end of the year, the lineup will expand to include a more affordable version bearing the 40 xDrive badge.
BMW will also introduce a new generation of the 3 Series this year, powered by four-cylinder and six-cylinder internal combustion engines. The first model in the series (with body styles minimally different from the electric i3) will carry the M350 xDrive badge and be driven by a six-cylinder engine.
Following the recent unveiling of the new electric SUV iX3, BMW will introduce the new electric iX4 this year, featuring a lower body silhouette and a coupe-style roofline. Munich previously announced that BMW will not produce a new X4 powered by internal combustion engines. However, this summer will see the debut of the fifth generation of the X5 SUV, to be followed by an electric version (iX5), and in due course, a hydrogen-powered variant.
The Beijing Auto Show, starting on April 24, will be the venue where BMW premieres the previously announced redesigned 7 Series. Expanding this year's offerings, the renowned M division has prepared the current M2 Coupe, which from this year will also be available with (likely plug-in) xDrive all-wheel drive.
Also noteworthy is Alpina, now under BMW's wing. The team responsible for the most luxurious editions of Bavarian cars is soon expected to release a version of the 7 Series that will rival models produced by Rolls-Royce.
