The footballer who gained the most fame in Nuremberg, having played 72 Bundesliga matches for the club, was cycling during his regular training routine near his home when a severe collision with a deer on the road abruptly ended his ride. Following the collision with the deer, Wirsching fell directly on his head and ultimately succumbed to the head injury in the hospital. He was not wearing a helmet during the ride. A passing driver found him lying beside the road and immediately called emergency services. Paramedics quickly arrived at the scene on the federal road between Poppenroth and Bad Kissingen, providing first aid before transporting him to the hospital. His brother Dieter revealed that he suffered a severe skull base fracture with heavy bleeding, which almost eliminated any chance of survival. "Our deepest condolences and sincere sympathy to all his loved ones," wrote the club from Nuremberg. He was at the peak of his career in the 1990s and ended his playing days at Wรผrzburg in 2001.
