The campaign, launched on the 81st anniversary of the establishment of Bosnia and Herzegovina's public broadcaster, aims to rescue BHRT from the financial struggles it has faced for several years.
"BHRT remains determined in its intention to continue the fight for survival despite the long-standing adverse circumstances it has been placed in through no fault of its own," the statement said.
As highlighted, there was hope last year, on its 80th anniversary, that the problems would be resolved.
"BHRT marks its 81st anniversary with a warning, but also with concrete steps. The Commercial Court in Banja Luka has issued the first final ruling in favor of BHRT, according to which Radio-Television of the Republic of Srpska must pay 5.4 million convertible marks in RTV tax within 30 days. However, this is part of RTRS's total debt, which exceeds 104 million KM, and has burdened BHRT's operations for years, preventing its stable and uninterrupted functioning," they announced.
They emphasized that this campaign is also about saving the signal that has connected Bosnia and Herzegovina for decades, in good times and bad, not just about saving BHRT.
"In the coming period, BHRT will address lower-level government institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the diaspora, businesspeople, and other entities through a special letter, aiming to initiate joint activities to preserve the public broadcaster. The question raised by this campaign is whether Bosnia and Herzegovina wants to have its own public broadcaster. If it doesโnow is the time to show it. BHRT warns that by extinguishing its signal, not only is one media outlet being shut down, but also the space where this country speaks about itself," they stated.
Finally, they emphasized that the campaign's motto is: "Let's not allow others to tell our stories."
